Solution
Dynamic Truck Volume Measurement

Port terminal, warehouse loading and unloading, construction site transportation, etc.

Introduction

Medium and large trucks are often used for material transportation (such as coal, ore, gravel, cement, etc.). Since the cost of bulk materials is generally settled up according to volume, it is particularly important to accurately measure the volume of the loaded goods in bulk material transportation. In the past, in bulk material transportation, manual experience calculations were usually used or the volume was calculated based on the weight and density of the goods. This measurement method had large errors, required more human resources, and the overall efficiency was relatively low. LiDAR is a three-dimensional sensor. Due to its physical characteristics, it has a strong advantage in the collection of three-dimensional information. Three-dimensional modeling is carried out through LiDAR, and then the volume of the materials loaded in the cargo is calculated. This solution can quickly, real-time, and automatically output structured data according to requirements, improve work efficiency, reduce huge losses caused by measurement errors, and truly realize cost reduction and efficiency increase and automation.

Application fields and product characteristics

  • Applicable to a variety of conventional trucks (small trucks, large trucks, trailers);
  • Suitable for measuring bulk materials such as gravel, ore, wood chips;
  • Applicable to scenarios such as port terminals, warehouse loading and unloading, construction site transportation, etc.;
  • No need to stop and wait, output data in real time, improve transportation efficiency;
  • Automated volume measurement and data processing to reduce errors caused by manual intervention;
  • Convenient deployment and easy post-maintenance;
  • Can work all day without being disturbed by the external environment;

Installation Requirements

Ambient temperature: -10℃~50℃; Ambient humidity: 10~80%. There should be a shield above the LiDAR to avoid strong direct sunlight. The LiDAR is suspended on a gantry and scans vertically downwards. The height of the gantry is recommended to be above 8m, and the effective coverage of the LiDAR with a field of view of 135° at 8m height is 20m. The specific height should be adjusted according to the site conditions and truck model. It is recommended that the installation location be flat enough to avoid the measurement accuracy being affected by the difference in ground level. It is recommended that the speed of the truck passing through the scanning area be stable within 20km/h. Driving at a low and uniform speed will help the scanning effect and improve the measurement accuracy.

Software function

  • LiDAR scans in real time to obtain point cloud data of vehicles and measured objects;
  • Output length, width, height of the truck, and the relative position of the tailgate (if any);
  • Identify the truck license plate number, head, body, and tail fixed-point positions;
  • Calculate the volume of the measured object, calculate the weight based on the density, etc.;
  • Data management, historical data recording and query;
  • Provide SDK and API interface calls to facilitate integrated development, and can also customize development based on customer needs;
